Columbus Speech & Hearing
For former CSH patients.
Are you still seeing Columbus Speech & Hearing patients?
Yes. Columbus Hearing is the official custodian of records for former Columbus Speech & Hearing patients. The audiologists who saw you at CSH founded this practice. Your records came with us. Call (614) 263-5151 or email info@columbushears.com and we’ll get you back on the schedule.
How do I request my records?
Email info@columbushears.com or call (614) 263-5151. We’ll verify your identity and either schedule you for an in-person visit (where we can review records together) or send records to your new provider per your written request.
Will my hearing aids still be serviced?
Yes. If your aids were dispensed at CSH, we can continue your care, including programming adjustments, clean-and-checks, and warranty repairs through the manufacturer.
Hearing Loss & Testing
About hearing change.
When should I get my hearing tested?
Adults should establish a baseline test by age 50 and screen annually after age 60. Test sooner if you notice symptoms: asking people to repeat themselves, struggling on the phone, turning the TV up, or feeling worn out by group conversations.
How long does a hearing test take?
A complete evaluation takes about 60 minutes. That includes history, otoscopy, tympanometry, pure-tone testing, speech-in-noise testing, and a results conversation.
Is hearing loss permanent?
Some kinds are, some aren’t. Conductive losses caused by wax, fluid, or middle-ear issues are often treatable. Sensorineural losses are usually permanent but well-managed with hearing aids and other technologies.
Hearing Aids
About devices and fittings.
What brands do you carry?
Phonak, Oticon, Starkey, Widex, ReSound, and Unitron. Working with multiple manufacturers allows us to match the right device to each patient’s hearing and lifestyle.
How much do hearing aids cost?
Pricing varies based on technology level and manufacturer. Our pricing is transparent and includes the device, custom programming, real-ear verification, and follow-up appointments. We’ll show you the full range at consultation.
Do you do real-ear measurement?
Yes. On every fitting, every time. Real-ear measurement is the recommended best practice and is how we verify that the aids are giving you the amplification your audiogram calls for.
What about over-the-counter hearing aids?
OTC hearing aids work for some patients with mild loss. They’re not custom-fit and aren’t verified with real-ear measurement. If you’ve already bought a pair, bring them in. We’ll tell you honestly whether they’re serving you well or whether something else would help more.
Our Practice
About Columbus Hearing.
Where are you located?
We have two offices: Dublin (5155 Bradenton Ave., Suite 150) and Westerville (470 Olde Worthington Rd., Suite 470). Same services at both. Most providers see patients at both.
What are your hours?
Monday through Thursday, 8:00am to 5:00pm. Friday, 8:00am to 12:00pm. Same schedule at both offices.
Do I need a referral?
No. You can schedule directly. If your insurance plan requires a referral for coverage, we’ll walk you through that step.
Do you treat children?
Yes. Pediatric hearing evaluations are part of what we do, including OAE testing and tympanometry. Dr. Lockhart has particular pediatric experience.
Tinnitus
About ringing in the ears.
Can tinnitus be cured?
For most patients there’s no “cure” in the sense of eliminating the sound completely. What good management can do, often dramatically, is reduce how loud, intrusive, or distressing the tinnitus feels.
Do hearing aids help with tinnitus?
Often, yes. Many patients with tinnitus also have some degree of hearing loss, and hearing aids that restore proper amplification frequently reduce tinnitus perception. We’ll determine during your evaluation whether this applies to you.
Ready to get back to hearing well?
