New Patient · Columbus Hearing

We’re glad you’re here.

Whether you’re coming back to us from Columbus Speech & Hearing or this is your first time seeing an audiologist, here’s what to expect at your first visit.

Your First Visit

Four stages in about an hour.

1

Welcome & intake

Arrive ten minutes early. Front desk gets your paperwork. Coffee or water if you’d like some.

2

Conversation

What brought you in. What you’ve noticed. Hearing history, medical history, family history.

3

Testing

A comprehensive hearing evaluation in our sound booth. Otoscopy, tympanometry, pure-tone, and speech.

4

Results

We sit down together, walk through your audiogram, and talk through what comes next.

Before You Come In

A short list of what to bring.

Couple relaxing together at home

Photo ID and insurance card

We’ll verify benefits if we haven’t already done it over the phone.

A list of current medications

Some medications affect hearing. We want the full picture.

Any prior hearing test results, if you have them

Especially helpful for tracking change over time. If yours are at the former CSH, we already have them.

Current hearing aids, if you wear them

Bring the aids, the chargers or batteries, and any paperwork from where you got them.

A family member or friend, if you’d like

Two sets of ears at a results conversation is often helpful. We have room for one guest in our offices.

Insurance

We accept all major insurances.

Coverage for hearing care varies a lot between plans. Call our front desk before your visit and we’ll verify your benefits at no charge.

Diagnostic testing

Often covered by medical insurance, especially when there’s a documented medical reason for the evaluation. We’ll bill your plan directly.

Hearing aids

Coverage varies widely. Some plans include a hearing aid benefit; many don’t. We’ll tell you exactly what your plan covers before you commit to anything.

Insurance Details
Who You’ll See

Five providers across two offices.

You can request a specific audiologist when you book. Otherwise, we’ll match you to whoever is most available at your preferred location.

New Patient FAQ

A few practical questions.

How soon can I get an appointment?
Most new patients can be seen within the week. Call (614) 263-5151 and we’ll find a time at either Dublin or Westerville.
How long is the first appointment?
About an hour for a comprehensive evaluation. If you’re coming in for a hearing aid fitting or consultation, plan for closer to ninety minutes.
Do I need a referral?
No referral is required to schedule with us. If your insurance plan requires one, we’ll walk you through that step. Many patients come in on a physician referral, but it’s not necessary.
Can I bring my spouse or a family member?
Please do. Hearing change affects everyone around the patient, so having a family member at the results conversation is often a real help. We have seating for one guest in our exam rooms.
